2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5

For 2025, Hyundai rolls out several improvements for the IONIQ 5, the automaker’s groundbreaking EV. The most noteworthy difference is a larger battery pack for all trims, with the standard range battery increasing to 63.0 kWh and the long-range pack growing to 84.0 kWh. At the same time, the IONIQ 5 becomes the first Hyundai vehicle equipped with the North American Charging Standard (NACS) port, enabling adapter-free, direct access to Tesla's extensive Supercharger network. Production has shifted to Hyundai's new Metaplant America facility in Georgia, making the IONIQ 5 the first Hyundai EV manufactured in the United States.

Meanwhile, the 2025 lineup expands with the introduction of the XRT trim. This AWD-only version gets a nearly an inch more ground clearance plus all-terrain tires and distinctive styling elements. Beyond that, the refreshed IONIQ 5 shows off redesigned front and rear bumpers, a new rear spoiler, more aerodynamic wheels, and available flush-type roof rails. Inside, occupants will find a redesigned center console with physical knobs for frequently used controls, a revised HVAC interface, and an updated steering wheel design.

Trims and Powertrains

Buyers of the 2025 IONIQ 5 can choose from five trim levels: SE Standard Range, SE, SEL, XRT, and Limited. The entry-level SE Standard Range uses a single rear-mounted motor (output: 168 horsepower) paired with the 63.0-kWh battery pack. The other trims get the larger 84.0-kWh battery, which powers either a 225-horsepower rear-wheel-drive (RWD) configuration or a 320-horsepower dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) setup. The debuting XRT is only offered with the dual-motor AWD powertrain.

The estimated driving range varies by configuration, with the SE Standard Range achieving approximately 245 miles per full charge. RWD-equipped trims with the larger battery offer up to 318 miles of range, while AWD editions provide 290 miles (SE/SEL), 269 miles (Limited), and 259 miles (XRT). DC fast charging can replenish the battery from 10% to 80% in 20 to 30 minutes, depending on the charging speed, connection type, and trim. The IONIQ 5’s cargo capacity is 27.2 cubic feet behind the rear seats, which can be expanded to 59.3 cubic feet with the second-row seatback folded down.

Standard Features

The SE Standard Range and SE trims share similar equipment levels apart from their different powertrains. They both have heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control with driver-only mode, stain-resistant fabric upholstery, proximity keyless entry, push-button start, an eight-way power driver's seat, auto-retracting flush door handles, and a 12.3-inch digital instrument display. These trims also have LED exterior lighting with automatic headlamps, a power charge-port door, rear privacy glass, a leather-wrapped tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel, heated side mirrors with integrated turn signals, LED cabin lighting, five USB ports, and 19-inch alloy wheels. The SE with AWD will also get a cabin heat pump.

The new XRT expands the SEL’s equipment list with interior and exterior styling elements specific to the trim plus a 23-mm raised suspension (which increases ground clearance to 7 inches versus the standard 6.1 inches), greater approach and departure angles (19.8 and 30.0 degrees, respectively), a sliding center console, vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability for powering external devices, and 18-inch wheels fitted with all-terrain tires.

The range-topping Limited adds to the SEL’s standard slate with a glass-panel roof with a power sunshade, heated and ventilated front seats, a driver's memory system, a head-up display, enhanced front LED accent lighting, a digital rearview mirror, premium exterior accents, rear door sunshades, a sliding center console, V2L capability, ambient cabin lighting, and adjustable rear outboard head restraints.
