2025 Hyundai Kona Electric

Hyundai’s commitment to embracing a more sustainable future is evident through its outstanding lineup of EVs. One of these is the Kona Electric, the emissions-free variant of their popular subcompact crossover that makes electrification accessible to a wide range of drivers. It’s affordable, practical, and packed with exceptional features. Plus, with its playfully modern design and sophisticated array of safety tech, the Kona Electric establishes itself as a sensible choice for buyers looking to reduce their carbon footprint.

For model year 2025, the N Line trim level joins the Kona Electric lineup with its unique exterior look (special bumpers, side skirts, and 19-inch wheels), along with 64-color ambient interior lighting, LED cabin lights, and exterior vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability. Also, some lower trims now get the LED cabin lights and V2L charging that were once exclusive to the Limited. Hyundai has also added Ultimate Red Metallic to the list of paint choices.

Trims, Powertrain, and Range

Hyundai markets the ’25 Kona Electric in four trims: SE, SEL, N Line, and Limited. The SE comes with a 99-kW electric motor producing 133 hp and 188 lb.-ft. of torque, which is powered by a 48.6-kWh battery. The remaining trims get a 201 hp 150-kW motor and a 64.8-kW battery. Front-wheel drive is standard across the board. The EPA-estimated driving range for the SE is 200 miles, though that increases to 261 miles for the SEL and Limited. With its focus on performance, the N Line will go 230 miles on a full charge.

Charging times with a Level II charger range from nearly five hours for the SE to six hours for the higher trims. If you’re using a public DC fast charger, though, it will take the ’25 Kona Electric from 10 percent to 80 percent charged in around 43 minutes.

Standout Amenities

The well-rounded array of features in the SE mixes basics with conveniences, with the highlights being remote start, cloth upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, proximity keyless entry, push-button start, manually adjustable front seats, a 60/40-split fold-flat rear seatback, five USB-C ports, automatic projector-type LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, LED combination taillights, and heated side mirrors with turn-signal indicators. The SEL adds heated front seats (power adjustable for the driver), a leather-wrapped steering wheel, LED interior lighting, second-row AC vents, rear privacy glass, and roof rails.

The new race-inspired N Line changes up its exterior design with black accents and upgrades its interior with upholstery in a combination of Alcantara and leatherette, a leather-wrapped N Line steering wheel, a power tilt-and-slide sunroof with sunshade, wireless phone charging, Digital Key 2, ambient interior lighting, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and metal sport pedals. At the top of the lineup, the Limited departs from the N Line’s dramatic flourish but receives high-end features such as H-Tex leatherette upholstery, ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a hands-free liftgate, a HomeLink universal garage door opener, full-line LED daytime running lights, and full LED taillights.

Active Safety Features

The Hyundai SmartSense safety bundle comes standard with navigation-based smart cruise control with stop-and-go, highway driving assist, intelligent speed limit assist, blind-spot collision warning, rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist, forward collision-avoidance assist (with pedestrian, junction, and direct oncoming detection), lane keeping assist, lane following assist, driver attention warning, safe exit warning, high beam assist, and rear occupant alert. The Limited tops the range with Remote Smart Parking Assist, a surround-view camera, an active blind-spot view monitor, and parking sensors (front, side, and rear).

Infotainment and Connectivity

Each ’25 Kona Electric trim comes with a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system featuring integrated navigation, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, SiriusXM satellite radio, HD Radio, Hyundai Pay, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming. With the SE and SEL, a straightforward sound system is the rule, but the N Line and Limited step up to a more sophisticated Bose unit.
