1980s: Early Years
The SONATA made its debut in 1986, and it almost immediately had commercial success. 2000s to Present Day
The SONATA we’ve come to know and love today started to take shape after the turn of the century. A complete overhaul of the exterior occurred in 2002, and its original 2.5L engine was boosted to 181 horsepower with a 2.7L displacement. In 2005, sales skyrocketed to 130,365 units, proving that drivers were looking toward this model instead of the Toyota Camry or Honda Accord. At the start of the new decade, the SONATA’s roof took on a coupe-style appearance, and it won a 10Best Cars award from Car and Driver1. “ Pohanka had some great deals and great vehicles for purchase, their service crew was great, I showed up late to my oil change/ state inspection and they still fit me in instead of making me reschedule. They also got my oil change and inspection done very quickly. I'm only leaving 4 stars instead of 5 because when I bought my 2022 Santa fe I noticed there was a big paint chip on one of the doors. They promised they would give me a paint match marker. It was on back order so they told me when it came in they would give it to me, but it's been about a year now and still no marker/paint pen.... ”
“ I came to the dealership frustrated that my car was essentially dying, I walked in and was immediately greeted by Charles; I wanted a used car but with interest rates it was better to go for new, the financial guy, I can’t remember his name, was great and very helpful explaining the difference! There was a point I felt like Charles was frustrated that I didn’t like the car, and I was quick to say I wasn’t buying a car I didn’t like, then he changed his way of talking/speaking, at one point I felt rushed because he said well I have an appointment at noon, but after getting the car, doing the paper work he wanted to show me details of my new car which I declined, I was doing being at a dealership for the day! After my tire light turned on and I couldn’t get it off, the service manager was so nice and helpful getting it figured out. Overall, I’m very outspoken and knew what I wanted vs what I wasn’t going to do which helped because I wasn’t going to be pressured into something I did not like. Charles did call me a few days later to see how the car was nice To add to this, he wanted me to do a survey, when I didn’t agree to do it at the dealership, he stopped contacting me for my free tank of gas because “he needed to make sure I put the correct answers” I guess he didn’t want a true survey! ”

“ Terrible experience. I purchased a 2020 Hyundai Tucson in 2023. There have been nothing but problems with it. I already had to get the engine replaced for the vehicle. Thank god for the warranty, but I was left paying out of pocket for a rental. The engine replacement took over a month. Eventually, a rental became available for me. Now that the engine has been replaced, I took it to another mechanic for a second opinion because I felt like the vehicle felt underpowered. The mechanic actually used to be a Hyundai mechanic and told me to take it back. The car feels underpowered with the new engine. I took it back and was told there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. Another issue I have is my loan, I OVERPAID for this car! Somehow, I still owe over 25,000 for this lemon of a car. I could have purchased a brand-new vehicle from Honda for the price I paid. Just beware of this place! They're in it for the money, not the client! ”
