2018 Hyundai Kona
Serving Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania, and Washington D.C.
Starting from the mid-2000s, Hyundai began to refine its line of SUVs to provide top-quality vehicles covered by the most generous warranty package in the country. And now, Hyundai is prepared to unleash its latest entry. In June 2017, the South Korean automaker unveiled the Kona, a subcompact crossover SUV that will debut for the 2018 model year. It borrows from the platform of the compact Elantra sedan platform and functions as a mini version of the compact Tucson SUV. The 2018 Kona will be available in four trims: SE, SEL, Limited, and Ultimate.
At the base level, the 2018 Hyundai Kona is powered by a 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder (I4) engine which produces 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque and is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. However, the Limited uses a unique powertrain configuration: a smaller yet turbocharged 1.6-liter I4 that produces 175 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. With front-wheel drive, the 2.0-liter and 1.6-liter are expected to produce a combined fuel efficiency of 30 mpg and 29 mpg, respectively. There is the option, however, to go with an all-wheel-drive system for enhanced traction.
Interior and Features
Although a subcompact vehicle, the 2018 Hyundai Kona provides two rows of seats—and enough interior space—to accommodate up to five people. Cruise control, Bluetooth® wireless technology for hands-free phone calling and audio streaming, Android Auto™ & Apple CarPlay™ for smartphone-based control, and a 7-inch LCD touchscreen display. Heated front seats and proximity key entry with push-button engine start appear on the SEL. With the Limited, the Kona is upgraded with a power tilt-and-slide moonroof, leather seating surfaces, automatic climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and 8-way power adjustment with lumbar support on the driver’s seat. The top-level Ultimate stands apart with its 8-inch LCD touchscreen navigation, wireless device charging ability, a heads-up display, an Infinity® Premium Audio System, and a Blue Link® Connected Car Service subscription that provides functions such as remote start, vehicle health monitoring, and roadside assistance.
Electronic vehicle stability control, LED daytime running lights, traction control, a remote keyless entry system with alarm for security, and a network of airbags provide standard safety on the 2018 Kona. Blind spot collision warning with lane change assist and lane keep assist with driver attention warning are added on the SUV if you go with the SEL or higher. And forward collision-avoidance assist with pedestrian detection is exclusive to the Ultimate model.
