Performance

Acceleration is peppy enough, and you'll feel very little hesitation when ramping up to freeway speed even with a full load of passengers and cargo. Six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive are standard across the trim lineup. If you're planning on towing, the Santa Fe can haul up to 5,000 pounds. There's no coarseness throughout the rev range, and shifting is smooth enough to satisfy all but those who expect a full-size SUV to behave like a sports coupe.

Interior and Features

Lavishly appointed on the interior, the 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe exudes a feeling of both stylish elegance and family-friendliness. The front-row seats are large and well-cushioned. You can opt for leather seating on any of the trim levels, and if you do, you'll also enjoy satin-finished wood trim on the dash. Second-row captain's chairs are another option. Standard features on the base SE trim include dual-zone climate control, a 7-inch infotainment display, and two USB ports. A larger screen display is standard on the uplevel trims, and you can get a 12-speaker Infinity sound system for just a bit more out-of-pocket expense. Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and SiriusXM satellite radio are included across the trim lineup.

Safety

Every 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe trim version comes with antilock brakes, traction control, and a full set of airbags. The LATCH system of child seat anchors and tethers is also standard. The driver assistance package including blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on the uplevel trims but are available as an option on the entry-level SE. Crash scores for the 2018 model year are not available as of October 2017, but the previous year's Santa Fe scored "Good" in all of the major testings including roof strength, side-impact protection, and moderate overlap protection.
