2019 Hyundai Veloster
Serving Fredericksburg, VA, Spotsylvania, VA, and Washington, D.C.
When it was first introduced, the Hyundai Veloster turned a lot of heads. With one door on the driver side and two doors on the other side, it presented a whole new idea of entry/exit convenience. It can't be thought of as a mini-sized crossover, and it certainly isn't a sedan, so the best way to describe it is an unorthodox hatchback.
One this is for sure, it has a loyal following. It gets excellent fuel mileage, and it isn't as small on the inside as you might think. The Veloster wasn't changed for 2018, so the current model year gets updated from 2017 to 2019. The 2019 Hyundai Veloster was unveiled recently, and if you don't know about the upgrades, this summary will fill you in.
The outgoing model comes with a little 1.6L engine that produces 132 horsepower. This is being replaced with a larger, 2.0L engine with Atkinson-cycle efficiency. Horsepower has increased to 147, and you can choose from six-speed manual or automatic transmission. Power is sent to the front wheels. A turbocharged 1.6L engine on the current model Turbo R Spec also carries over to 2019. Even with this larger engine, the Veloster won't win any drag races, but acceleration is more than acceptable, especially if you choose the manual transmission over the dual-clutch automatic.
Interior and Features
The interior of the 2019 Hyundai Veloster is where you'll notice most of the changes. The general outlay of gauges and dials is pretty much the same, but the 7-inch display screen has been upgraded, and a larger, 8-inch display screen is an optional add-on. This larger display includes performance gauges for turbo boost, engine torque, and lateral/longitudinal g-force. Cloth upholstery is standard on the base trim, and cloth-leather combo is offered on the 2.0 Premium or Turbo trims. Uplevel trims also feature an upgraded stereo system and a panoramic sunroof, and all versions come with smartphone integration. The Turbo trim comes with contrasting tones on the front and rear seats, dark gray or black with red or orange trimming.
For safety, the 2018 Veloster gets six airbags, a rearview camera, LED daytime running lights, electronic brake-force distribution, brake assist, driver attention alert, torque vectoring control, lane keep assist, and forward collision-avoidance alert. Upper-level trims are more likely to have blind spot detection, hill start assist control, rear cross-traffic alert, lane change assist, and pedestrian detection ability.
