When shopping for a crossover, it is essential to know what type of crossover you’re looking for. Both the 2019 Hyundai Tucson and the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek are a great choice if these are what you’re looking into purchasing for yourself. However, the Hyundai Tucson and Subaru Crosstrek offer a range in different features considering different car companies make the Tucson and Crosstrek. So, which of these crossovers is best for you?
Both the 2019 Hyundai Tucson and Subaru Crosstrek are excellent handling vehicles. However, Tucson offers a bit of a better ride overall. For better handling, this year’s Hyundai Tucson comes standard with speed-sensitive variable assist power steering, making the Tucson have a better feel of the road while at highway speeds and making parking and hard cornering much easier. The wheelbase of the 2019 Hyundai Tucson is an average of 2.2 inches wider in the front and 2.5 inches wider in the rear than the Crosstrek. Despite the Crosstrek not coming standard with variable assist power steering, and having a smaller wheelbase, the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek sure does impress when it comes to its handling and overall ride.
The 2019 Hyundai Tucson SE and Value offers the same naturally aspirated 2.0-liter DOHC 4-cylinder engine as the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek. The 2019 Tucson offers 12 more horsepower coming in at 164 hp and 6 lb-ft more torque coming in at 151 lb-ft of torque, whereas the Crosstrek only has 152 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque. The Tucson SEL, Sport, and Limited all come with a naturally aspirated 2.4-liter DOHC 4-cylinder that produces 181 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque.
The 2019 Hyundai Tucson offers a much grander cargo volume than the Subaru Crosstrek with its second row up. The Tucson has approximately 31 cubic feet of cargo space behind the 2nd row whereas the Crosstrek has an estimated 20.8 cubic feet of cargo space behind the 2nd row. The Tucson also has about 61.9 cubic feet of cargo space with all the rear seats down whereas the Crosstrek offers 55.3 cubic feet of cargo space with all rear seats folded down. The Subaru Crosstrek however, makes loading and unloading easier for those who are taller. The Crosstrek’s cargo hatch lift-over height is 30.9 inches, while the Hyundai Tucson - making it easier for those who are shorter – has a cargo hatch lift-over of 29.3 inches.
On select models, (Value/Limited) the Hyundai Tucson offers a power liftgate that can be activated by waiting a moment behind the back bumper or pressing the designated button on your keys. The Crosstrek, unfortunately, does not have this option, however.
Both the 2019 Hyundai Tucson and the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek are a great choice to look into when shopping for a crossover. These vehicles are exciting, and both provide a reasonable amount of comfort and are both worth looking into and taking for a test drive to find which one is right for you.
