Entering its first generation, the all-new 2020 Hyundai Palisade is a premium SUV with eight seats. The 2019 Honda Pilot is also a spacious SUV with seating for eight people. Under the hood, the Palisade has better capabilities thanks to the 3.8 L GDI engine and HTRAC AWD. Hyundai's new SmartSense technology also beats the Honda Sensing in active safety.

Performance

Capable of whipping out 291 horsepower, a 3.8 L V6 engine block propels the 2020 Hyundai Palisade. This GDI powertrain cranks out just more than 260 pound-feet of peak torque. Also having six cylinders, the 2019 Honda Pilot's 3.5 L powertrain produces up to 280 hp and slightly more than 260 lb-ft. The Variable Cylinder Management controls the delivery of fuel depending on the need for output. Similarly, the Palisade has the Idle Stop & Go technology that completely shuts off the powertrain to conserve fuel. An eight-speed automatic transmission is standard in this all-new Hyundai SUV. You can only select one of six gear speeds from the Pilot's automatic transmission system. An all-wheel drive with the updated HTRAC technology helps the Palisade navigate various surfaces. This dynamic AWD can run on the Smart, Sport, Snow and Normal modes. Featuring three settings, the Pilot's Intelligent Traction Management is mainly tuned for off-road cruising rather.

Safety

Powered by the all-new Hyundai SmartSense technology, eight active safety features are standard in the 2020 Palisade. The Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist conducts risk assessment of front crashes with pedestrians and motor vehicles. With some guidance from the Lane Following Assist, you'll avoid unintentional swaying into adjacent lanes. This Hyundai SUV also has the Blind Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist that heightens your awareness of traffic in blind zones. Whether you're sleepy or distracted, the Driver Attention Warning will remind you to focus on the road ahead. The Smart Cruise Control with the Stop&Go is another accident-prevention technology in the Palisade. Thanks to the Safe Exit Assist, you and the rear passengers can safely get out of the parked vehicle on narrow roads with heavy traffic. Despite having some great accident-mitigation features, the Honda Sensing is a few steps behind the SmartSense suite.

Technology

A fully digital instrument cluster is available in the 2020 Hyundai Palisade. This crisp 12.3-inch TFT display keeps you updated on the car's mechanical and electronic settings. Optimized for wide-angle viewing, the car's 10.25-inch touch screen has a class-leading design. With a gentle tap of the high-resolution display, you can access the GPS navigation software and Blue Link suite. Amazon Alexa is fully integrated into Hyundai's signature digital hub. You'll also find other helpful widgets and services in the Blue Link portal. For example, you could remotely start the car's engine or unlock the doors from a smartphone that's synced with this mobile app. The Palisade also has the Driver Talk Intercom System and the ultrasonic-powered Rear Occupant Alert.
