'Twas Car Service the Night Before Christmas

'Twas the night before Christmas, and within the workshop, silence reigned as customers took a pause...

What an enchanting way to embark on this tale! Christmas Eve possesses a unique charm as a workday - sometimes bustling, sometimes quiet. This particular Christmas Eve was a "quiet" one for the service department. Typically, we'd remain operational until around 3 pm, but the dearth of activity prompted us to release team members early. Regrettably, I wasn't among the fortunate few chosen to wrap up the day. With only an advisor, parts representative, and technician left, we whiled away the final two hours in the waiting area. As the clock struck 3, preparations for closure commenced, aiming to reach our homes and join our families for holiday festivities.

Then, the phone stirred to life. A family en route to visit relatives had halted at a local I-95 restaurant for respite and sustenance. Upon returning to their car, it simply refused to start! With a tow truck already dispatched, they anticipated arriving at the dealership within the next half-hour. Despite being officially closed, I promised to call them back after consulting my team. Conversations ensued with the technician, revealing that the parts representative had prior commitments and couldn't remain, but the technician could extract a starter, alternator, and battery suited for their vehicle. Should none of these components be at fault, he confessed uncertainty about a resolution.

The customers were promptly informed of our capabilities upon my follow-up call. Not long after, they arrived in the tow truck, their crimson vehicle adorned with Christmas finery - antlers adorned the windows, and a red nose adorned the front grille. The car teemed with wrapped gifts destined for loved ones. Swiftly, the car was ushered into the workshop, and our technician determined that a malfunctioning starter was the issue, assuring them of a swift repair.

As the family waited, the mother's voice carried the cadence of "Twas the Night Before Christmas" to her children's ears. In a short span, the car was mended, and amidst the paperwork's final touches, the family thanked the technician, extending a hand of gratitude. "No trouble at all," he replied, "if it were my daughter out on the road and in need, I would hope someone would lend a hand, ensuring her Christmas at home." With that, he hastened to secure his bay and tools, soon departing. With windows rolled down, the family left, their voices ringing out in unison: "Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!"

Now it was 5 pm, two hours past our customary closing time. Yet, our technician's sentiment stood firm. During those two extra hours, we'd made a family's Christmas wish come true. This is why Pohanka stands apart. Discover the distinction firsthand at Pohanka Hyundai of Fredericksburg.
